When I was drinking alcohol, I can’t say I ever looked forward to mornings.

I remember when I used to drink alcohol regularly and I never looked forward to mornings. It’s almost like you don’t want the night to end, right? I suppose part of it is because you have to deal with the aftermath of drinking. The grogginess, maybe a touch of a headache, just a feeling of unwellness.

I remember when my kids were young and they would call for me in the morning, the  thought of "no, it’s not morning yet" definitely crossed my mind more than once. It's crazy how alcohol can affect your perspective on things, even something as simple as the start of a new day. And now if my kids wake up in the middle of the night, I’m good. I’m there 100%.

One of my most favorite parts of the day is waking up early. It’s dark outside, my family is sleeping, it’s quiet and peaceful. This is the time where I appreciate where I am in life and contemplate where I’m going. I drink a coffee and am cozy under a blanket. I look forward to this time.

When I was drinking alcohol, I can’t say I ever looked forward to mornings. While I’ve always considered myself a morning person, when you drink alcohol on the regular, your sleep patterns are all messed up! You can sleep a full night and still wake up tired, and it's a struggle to feel fully awake and alert in the morning. We tend to blame getting older for these feelings, but often that’s not the case at all.

But now, at 43 years old, I wake up ready to tackle the day every day. I feel amazing, and it's such a stark contrast to how I used to feel. I am so grateful for this change in my life and I wouldn't trade it for anything. Here's to mornings, clarity, and feeling good.

If you are waking up this morning feeling groggy, feeling regretful about the amount of drinks you had, feeling that you now need to deal with your children and life, you aren’t alone. If you are sick of feeling this way reach out to me.
